    1. Thanks Leonie! I’ve been drawing faces since childhood….(sometimes portraits). But mostly they are just quick sketches which at times, have elements that look a little like me; and sometimes just convey a feeling or mood… all good fun. 🙂

    1. Thank you! 🙂 My favourite app, is “Art Set Pro” , which is the one I mostly used in the pics on this post. It has amazing natural looking media and so easy to use. You can find out more about this app and others I use on my page, “About Some Art Apps, Other Apps and My Books”. I’m yet to add more info there about the other lovely art apps I also used for my artwork, on this post. I’ve only just recently revisited them. There is of course info in the app store. I draw and paint with my finger on the screen, rather than a stylus. I also work on paper and sometimes canvas, however in the past couple of years I’ve been doing a lot of my art on my my iPad. 🙂 I did try Sketchbook Pro, but I found this one a little bit fiddly to use and the media is not as natural looking. It is worth trying out a few art apps, to see what suits you.
I really love your blog and look forward to seeing your future posts. All the best, Janette. 🙂

  1. Janette, I’m so impressed by the sheer variety of line and ‘brushwork’ you can achieve with these apps. You do use your finger to ‘paint’ with on the screen, correct? How does that work with the paintbrush-type style – does it create a very thick line/brushstroke where you put your finger down, instead of a finger-width stroke? Or do you have to draw a shape with the tip of your finger and fill it in with color?

    1. Thank you! Firstly…yes I do use my finger. I can get thick or thin lines, or light washes of colour or thick paint…very easily and quickly. It really is a lot to do with the quality of the art app. I’ve found ones, which have lovely natural looking media and are very simple to navigate around in regards to setting the thickness of line or density of colour… It took a while to find them. Some of the more popular art apps are just too complex and too fiddly for me to really enjoy and the media doesn’t quite have the look I wanted. I think in some of those apps there’s a program or something, where you make a shape and fill it with colour…don’t like to use that kind of thing..feels too artificial. 🙂
“Art Set Pro” is my favourite! It has a delightful realistic lay out of tools and natural looking media. I hope you get an opportunity to try it..it’s hard to describe the quite natural experience it provides. I tap on: a pen, pencil, oil pastel, a paintbrush (there are thick and thin ones) etc..There’s set colours, but you can also mix your own. It “feels” much like it does when I draw and paint on paper or canvas. I think you’d find it quite amazing and rewarding. There’s more about the apps I use on my page “About Some Art Apps, Other Apps and My Books”. I hope to put a short video on my blog of me drawing and painting on my iPad soon – just of my finger and the screen. 🙂 Thanks for the interest and questions. All the best, Janette.

    2. Yes, please post a video! That’s exactly what I’d like to see. Even if it’s just demos of brushes, lines, etc., although it would be great if you’d do a simple sketch & show how you colorize it.

    3. Yep, I think it’s a good idea for a post…been thinking about doing this for a while..just have to find the time and probably get my youngest son (he’s eighteen) to film me. Better get my hand lotion on…my index finger could be famous..ha, ha. 🙂 I’ll see how I go. Cheerio, Janette.

    1. Thank you so much! Yes, I’ll continue to do draw and paint (I use my finger, rather than a stylus) on my iPad..good fun! I also work on paper and canvas – which looks much the same as work I do on the screen. There’s more info about the apps I use on my page “About Some Art Apps, Other apps and My Books”.
