From Sketchbook – to Finished Artwork

This artwork above is in a mix of media – 5” x 7”. I began it using ink-pen and water-soluble graphite, in one of the sketchbooks I make myself.

I took a snap of the sketches. Then with my fingertip I used art media in Procreate to remove the middle seam of the page, and add a little more line and tone to it – which also made them read as one drawing. (As seen further along in a video). Initially I drew them as seperate sketches.

I then printed it onto cotton watercolour paper, and worked on it with watercolour, gouache and pencil… My inkjet printer uses pigment ink, so the inks don’t run, and are fade resistant. There’s more info on my page, “Printing iPad and Traditional Art”.

I fill up a lot of sketchbooks. A good place to practice various types of art media and subject matter; and provides a resource of ideas and visual information for other works on paper or canvas. And importantly – it’s fun!

Thank you for visiting. Have a great day!
