Watercolour and gouache, on 12.70cm x 17.78cm (5” x 7”) Strathmore cold pressed 300gsm watercolour paper.
Day 7 of the World Watercolour Month challenge.
This watercolour paper is becoming a favourite. It has an attractive texture, which takes a wash in a lovely way. I ended up cropping this a bit to improve the composition. I also added a little white gouache (and some other gouache colours) to bring back some freshness to it; I’d covered too much of the white paper – not an uncommon situation for me! Lots of practice will help. 🙂
I can see this painting on a large wall, filling the whole space!

Thanks Sharon. It does have a bold, big feel to it; though I think I need to brighten some of the colours – I have tackled largish (acrylic) canvas works, though not quite that big! 🙂 I hope to do more of them eventually. I’ve also used watercolour on canvas, and it works quite well…though does need final coats of acrylic sealer and varnish.
I reckon it’s great to be able to do fairly small works (which I usually prefer), and then if you want, be able to scan and print them larger.
Enjoying this challenge; I’m off to do some more painting! Cheerio, Janette. 🙂

I’m working up to painting larger watercolors. I recently bought some 24″ 18 paper. Happy painting Janette!
