GumLeaves in Watercolour and Gouache

Watercolour and gouache, black watersoluble pencil on Canson 220gsm A4 drawing paper. Painting size approx. 7” x 10”….Think I’ll add more of the burgundy colour….

Day 12 of the World Watercolour Month challenge.

I picked a small branch of gumleaves just near our house, and then used a black watersoluble pencil to draw them. These type of leaves are a subject matter I love; and often return to.

When I washed the black pencil lines over with water, the dark values puddled in semi-random (and delightful) ways. Then I added watercolour and gouache; with white gouache added more densely in places. I drew in a few more black pencil lines onto wet parts of the paper, and loved how dark they became – with interesting edges. Good fun!

Thanks for viewing my work. 🙂
